Frantz nominated for 2019 NCAA Woman of the Year Award
Indianapolis – Former Bethany College track & field standout Leighanna Frantz has been nominated for the NCAA Women of the Year Award, announced Wednesday afternoon.
The NCAA Woman of the Year award honors graduating female college athletes who have exhausted their eligibility and distinguished themselves throughout their collegiate careers in academics, athletics, service and leadership.
Frantz was a four-time member of the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) Spring Honor Roll and competed in the high-jump and long-jump for the Bethany Women's Track & Field team. She was the president of the German Club for two years and spent a semester abroad in Germany. Frantz also spent a semester in Washington DC as an intern for the Senate.
A Kalon Scholar, Frantz participated as a Kalon leader her freshman and junior year. She was social chair for the Phi Mu Sorority and was in the German National Honor Society.
The East Liverpool, Ohio native was a three time PAC Champion in the high jump and a runner up twice. Frantz received PAC All-Conference Honors six times and was named to the 2019 PAC All-Sportsmanship team in the outdoor season.
Frantz received her bachelor's degree in German Interdisciplinary Studies with an emphasis in politics this past May.
Conference offices will select up to two nominees. The Woman of the Year selection committee, comprised of representatives from the NCAA membership, will choose the Top 30 honorees. Ten honorees will be chosen from each division.
The Committee on Women's Athletics will select the 2019 NCAA Woman of the Year from the nine finalists. The 2019 NCAA Woman of the Year will be announced Sunday, Oct. 20, at an awards dinner in Indianapolis.
