Bethany Baseball Drops Twin Bill to Fredonia

April 16 – BETHANY, W. Va. – The Bethany College baseball team dropped a pair of non-conference games to visiting Fredonia State on Saturday afternoon at Bethany Field.

In game one, the Bison had a hard time getting the offense going, as Fredonia State pitcher Ben Atkinson tossed a no-hitter over seven innings en route to handing the Green & White an 8-0 defeat.

Offensively, junior Zack Miller (West Mifflin, Pa./West Mifflin) led the way, showing patience at the plate by drawing a pair of walks on the day.

Freshman Nick Gross got the start on the mound for the Bison, throwing 5.1 innings, allowing five earned runs while striking out one.

In game two, the Green & White once again fell prey to solid pitching, dropping a 6-0 decision in the night cap.

Offensively, the Bison tallied five hits in the second game, getting a pair of hits from Andrew Gilliland (Gahanna, Ohio/Bishop Hartley). The multi-hit performance marked the outfielders' first of the season. The remaining hits for the Green & White came from Zach Schlotter (Twinsburg, Ohio/Gilmour Academy), Miller and Alex Martin (Sound Beach, N.Y./Miller Place).

Freshman Neil Woods (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Allegheny) made his first-career start on the mound, throwing 5.2 innings of work while striking out five batters. Sophomore Sean Spotts (Harpers Ferry, W. Va./Jefferson) made his first appearance of the season, working a perfect seventh on just five pitches.

The Bison will be back in action on Sunday, April 17 as they play host to Pitt-Greensburg. The matchup is scheduled for a 1 p.m. start.
