Matt Shaffer Named PAC Hitter of the Week

March 7 – GREENVILLE, Pa. – For his efforts in helping the Bethany College baseball team to a 2-2 start to open the season, Bison senior Matt Shaffer (McDonald, Pa. / Fort Cherry) has been selected as the Presidents' Athletic Conference Hitter of the Week, announced the PAC on Monday.

Shaffer got off to a hot start in the batters' box in a pair of doubleheaders during opening weekend for the Green & White. He hit .667 on the week, collecting eight total hits while driving in four RBIs.

The senior first baseman collected a pair of multi-hit games as the Green & White swept Northwestern (Minn.) by scores of 4-2 and 2-1. Shaffer tallied two hits, an RBI and a run scored in the first game. He then produced three hits in the one-run victory in the nightcap, driving in both Bison runs.

In a doubleheader with Delaware Valley on Sunday, Shaffer hit .500, including a 2-for-3 outing with a RBI in a 5-2, extra-inning loss in the second game.

Shaffer and the Bison will be back in action on Thursday, March 10, as they continue their spring break trip in Fort Pierce, Florida with a doubleheader against Monmouth College. The matchup is scheduled for a 3:30 p.m. start.
