Baseball defeated at Waynesburg, 6-2

WAYNESBURG, Pa. (May 2) - The Bison were dealt a 6-2 loss at Waynesburg Tuesday afternoon in a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) game.

The Bethany College baseball team 13-20-1 overall, 7-12 in league play. Meanwhile, the Yellow Jackets improve to 11-10 in the PAC, 17-19 overall this season.

After a pair of scoreless innings from senior starting pitcher Bill McLuckie (McMurray, Pa./Peters Township), Waynesburg broke through in the third inning. The Yellow Jackets tallied back-to-back hits, including a triple, to take a 1-0 lead.

Waynesburg added to its lead in the fourth inning when it loaded the bases with the help of a pair of walks, before a two-RBI double extending the Yellow Jacket lead to 3-0.

After a two-run home run in the sixth pushed the Waynesburg lead to 5-0, the Bison manufactured a run in the seventh to get on the board. Sophomore John Lee (Worthington, Ohio/Thomas Worthington) singled, stole second and scored on a RBI-single from junior Ryan Nickerson (Huntington Beach, Calif./Huntington Beach) made the score 5-1.

The Yellow Jackets got the run right back in the bottom half of the seventh to rebuild its lead to five, 6-1, with a two-out single. Bethany did not go away quietly, as a solo home run by junior Jacob Miller (Pickerington, Ohio/Pickerington North) to lead off the ninth inning brought the game to its final score.

McLuckie was tagged with the loss on the mound, falling to 1-2 on the season after allowing three runs on six hits with a pair of strikeouts.

Six different Bison connected on hits in the game, led by the solo home run by Miller.

The Bison will head to Crestview Falls, Kentucky on Saturday, May 6 to open a three-game series at Thomas More. A make-up date for the doubleheader at Geneva has not yet been announced.
