BETHANY, W.Va. (May 10) – Bethany College senior second baseman Ryan Nickerson (Huntington Beach, Calif./Huntington Beach) has been named a Google Cloud Academic All-District II selection for the second-straight year announced the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Thursday afternoon.

Nickerson is now eligible for consideration for the Google Cloud Academic All-America Team, which will be announced next month.

Nickerson, who was also a 2017 Honorable Mention Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) selection, hit .291 this season with 15 RBI and 19 runs scored. He also drew a team-high 17 walks and led the team with a .398 on-base percentage, while finishing second in both doubles (8) and extra-base hits (9). He is a lifetime-.309 hitter and concluded his career at Bethany by delivering a walk-off RBI-single in the team's 4-3 win in the season-finale this past Tuesday versus Penn State Behrend.

A double major in finance and managerial economics, Nickerson has maintained a 3.85 cumulative GPA. Regularly recognized as a member of Bethany's President's and Dean's Lists, he recently passed both of his comprehensive exams for both of his majors at Bethany with "distinction".

The Huntington Beach, California native has served as the president of Bethany's SGA and is a member of the Sigma Beta Delta international business, management, and administration honorary. He has worked as the chief executive officer for the College's McCann Student Investment Fund, which is managed entirely by students, making real investments in real-world financial markets, with real dollars, and with the College's staff accountant in its division of business and finance. Nickerson also sat on Bethany's Strategic Planning Committee and has participated as a student representative on the search committee last year for Bethany Provost and Dean of the Faculty, Dr. Joseph Lane.

He also volunteers with the School Of Bright Promise in Wintersville, Ohio and has worked with numerous youth baseball camps in his hometown of Huntington Beach.

Nickerson is the first two-time academic all-district selection from Bethany since former volleyball standout Allie Powell received the honor in both 2015 and 2016.

To qualify for the academic all-district honors, student-athletes must maintain a cumulative 3.30 GPA or higher and must have reached sophomore athletic and academic standing at their institution. Nominees must have participated in at least 50 percent of the team's games and must be a starter or important reserve with legitimate athletic credentials.

The Google Cloud Academic All-District teams include student-athletes divided into eight geographic districts across the United States and Canada. The teams include NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II and NCAA Division III participants, while the College Division Academic All-America Team combines NAIA, Canadian and two-year schools.

As part of the partnership between Google Cloud and the NCAA, CoSIDA has teamed up with Google Cloud as the title sponsor of CoSIDA's Academic All-America® Program, the nation's premier intercollegiate athletics scholar-athlete awards program.
