Baseball: Schaffner Homers Again; Bison Swept by Bearcats

BETHANY W.Va.- The Bison found themselves playing Saint Vincent sandwiched between two other Presidents Athletic Conference doubleheaders. The Bison continue their losing streak; getting swept by the Bearcats.

THE BASICS

Final Scores:

Game One: Saint Vincent 13, Bethany 3

Game Two: Saint Vincent 5, Bethany 0

Records:

  • Saint Vincent (6-16, 4-4 PAC)

  • Bethany (8-14, 1-4 PAC)

HOW IT HAPPENED (GAME ONE)

  • Josh Speaker started the Bison out right when he scored Nick Roell on an RBI single.

  • Bethany's one run was quickly trumped. The Saint Vincent Bearcats put up nine runs in the bottom of the second, including a steal of home. That gave the Bison some work to do in the upcoming innings.

  • The bats struggled to put runs on the board. Grant Schaffner launched a two-run home run in the sixth. It was not enough to give the Bison the victory. They gave up four runs in the bottom of the seventh to end game one early.

BISON LEADERS IN GAME ONE:

  • Speaker went 1-2 with an RBI and a walk.

  • Schaffner had the only extra base hit with his two-run homerun.

HOW IT HAPPENED (GAME TWO):

  • Game two saw the team have plenty of opportunities. On multiple occasions Bethany led off the inning with a single before the Bison shuffled into scoring position. Even then Bethany couldn't muster a timely hit. Despite earning seven hits and a walk, Bethany was unable to score.

  • A quality outing by Logan Bennett saw him throw seven innings without giving up an earned run. Those three runs are credited to the defense, but can technically be pinned back on Bennett through errors and wild pitches.

  • A two-run home run allowed in the eighth buried the Bison even deeper. The Bearcats pitching earned them a victory in game two.

BISON LEADERS IN GAME TWO:

  • Speaker and Riley Brendel both had multi hit games. Each had two singles
