Bethany Drops to Westminster, 21-3

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. (BethanyBison.com) - The Bethany College football team was handed a 21-3 defeat in a President's Athletic Conference matchup against Westminster College, Saturday, Sept. 22.

The loss drops the Bison to 2-2 over, 2-1 in the PAC. Meanwhile, the Titans move to 3-0 in conference play, 3-1 overall this season.

Freshman Dom Salinetro (Landisburg, Pa./West Perry) finished the day 15-of-37 for 85 yards passing and threw four interceptions. Junior running back Raekwon Wright (Baltimore, Md./Patterson) rushed 50 yards on 19 carries, while junior Carlin Bason (Gaithersburg, Md./Gaithersburg) went 44 yards on eight.

The Bison defense was led by senior Joseph Fiasco (Wilmerding, Pa./Penn-Trafford) who posted 10 tackles, six of which were solo, to go along with a quarterback hurry. Senior Nate Daniels (Crooksville, Ohio/Crooksville) tallied eight tackles, including 3.5 for 20 yards loss, while junior Phil Taylor (Belle Vernon, Pa./Belle Vernon) and freshman Amon Landsdown (Washington, D.C./Bell Multicultural) each added a forced fumble apiece to their stat line.

Both teams struggled to get the chains moving in the opening minutes as they were forced to exchange punts in the first quarter. Westminster broke the shutout as it's 37-yard field goal in the fifth minute was good for a 3-0 lead.

In the second quarter, the Titans doubled their score with a 38-yard field goal, before distancing themselves from the Green and White after a Bison throw was intercepted and returned for 72 yards to put Westminster at Bethany's two-yard line. The Titans two-yard touchdown and two-point conversion bumped their lead over Bethany, 14-0.

The Bison were able to cut into their deficit after sophomore Sean Cole's (Charleroi, Pa./Charleroi) 37-yard field goal was good with just 17 seconds left in the first half.

Coming out of halftime, the Bison's offensive miscues continued to plague them as Westminster utilized another Bethany interception for an 18-yard return to bump its lead to 18, 21-3.

The Green and White continue to PAC play next Saturday, Sept. 29, when it welcomes Washington and Jefferson, for homecoming. Kickoff inside Bison Stadium is slated for 2 p.m.
