Bethany Beats Bryn Athyn for First Win of the Season, 73-63

Annville, PA- Bethany College men's basketball team earned it's first win of the season Saturday, Nov. 17, against Bryn Athyn in the consolation game of the Rinso Marquette Tournament. The Green and White were led by junior Trey Shifflett (York, Pa/ William Penn) with a career high 20 pts and seven assists. The win over the Lions gives the Bison their first win of the season as they move to 1-3 on the season. 

Shifflett was accompanied by three other Bison that scored in double figures. Junior Aiden Albert (Saxonburg, Pa/Knoch) added a career high 18 pts and grabbed six rebounds. Freshman Allayasa Bray (Pittsburgh, Pa/Obama Academy) added 12 pts and six rebounds. Lastly, freshman Dylan Furlong scored 11 pts and pulled down nine rebounds to round out the leading scorers for the Bison.

Bethany trailed by as much as 14 points during the first half and were down 32-26 going into halftime. A layup and three pointer by Albert brought the Bison within one minutes into the second half. A pair of foul shots by Shifflett at the 16:15 mark of the second half gave the Bison the lead. The Lions and Bison would exchange layups putting the Bison up 35-34. A three from Shifflett would put the Bison back ahead 38-34, and the Bison never trailed for the rest of the game.

The Bison hit at a 33.8 percentage (24-71) from the field, while the Lions shot 24-61 (39.3%). Bethany shot 73.1% (19-26) from the free throw line and 30% (6-20) from beyond the arc, while Bryn Athyn only shot 57% (12-21) from the line and 31% (5-16) from three. The Lions were led by Lamarr Crenshaw and Larry Stevenson III with 14 pts a piece.

Up next, Bethany will hit the road to take on Penn St-Altoona (0-2), Tuesday November 20. Tipoff is slated for 6pm.
