Men's Basketball Narrowly Edged by Tartans

Pittsburgh, Pa – The Bethany College men's basketball team traveled to Pittsburgh, Pa for a non-conference match-up against the Carnegie Mellon Tartans. The Bison comeback after being down 20 points, fell short in the final seconds of the second half. The Green and White fell to the Tartans, 87-84. Junior transfer, Dalton Hamrick led the Bison with a career high 24 points and six boards.

GAME OVERVIEW

The Tartans struck first with a jumper behind the arc. The Bison knotted the ballgame at 5-5 from a Khalil Wilson jumper, but the Tartans quickly regained the lead. Both teams battled in the first half, exchanging buckets and the Bison kept the score close until the 11:32 mark when the Tartans took a 12 point lead, 25-13. The Tartans held the lead, answering the Bison's shots. A pair of Dylan Furlong freebies from the free throw line cut the Tartan lead to 33-30. However, a quick three on the other end, extended the lead back to six. At the end of the first half, Bethany trailed 51-48.

In the beginning of the second half, the Tartans held full momentum of the game taking a commanding 16 point lead while holding the Bison scoreless for the first four minutes of the half. A Craig Sauers field goal, gave the Green and White their first points of the second half.

The Tartans continued to hold the commanding 20 point lead until the Bison dug deep and went on a 17 point run beginning with a Dalton Hamrick jumper behind the arc at the 4:36 mark in the second half. From that point on, the Bison held the Tartans scoreless and chipped away at the lead. With under 40 seconds to go in the game, the Bison cut the lead to two points, 86-84 off of a Hamrick fast break layup. The Tartans hit one of two free throws with nine seconds on the clock. The Bison's attempt to knot the game with under ten seconds to go fell short.
