Bethany Lacrosse Defeated by Hope College

March 21 – BETHANY, W. Va. – The Bethany College lacrosse team was defeated by Hope College, 22-3, at Bison Stadium on Monday afternoon.

Hope (4-3) jumped out to an early lead, scoring twice in the opening minute.

The Bison (0-7) got on the board midway through the first quarter after Grant Delaney (Wooster, Ohio/Wooster) found Luke Gregor (Venetia, Pa./The Kiski School) in front of the cage for the goal.

Hope responded quickly and continued to put pressure on the Bison defense throughout the half. The Flying Dutchmen took a 14-1 lead into the intermission.

Bethany struck first in the second half as Jake Holland (Canton, Ohio/Jackson) picked up a loose ball and beat multiple Flying Dutchmen defenders to the net for the goal.

Jacob Schiffer (Monkton, Md./Hereford) added another goal for the Bison late in the third quarter, scooping up a ground ball and firing it in for the score. Bethany trailed 18-3 after the period.

Hope controlled the fourth quarter from the start, outscoring the Bison by four and holding on for the 22-3 victory.

Schiffer led the Bethany offense with six shots while Tim Pagano (Erie, Pa./Fort Leboeuf) and Holland recorded four, each.  Holland has now scored in the last four games while Schiffer has tallied a goal in three straight.

Goaltender Sean Rhodes (Indiana, Pa./Indiana Area Senior) collected 18 saves against the Flying Dutchmen, including 12 in the opening half.

Bethany College lacrosse will return to action on Wednesday, March 23 when they travel to Latrobe, Pa. to take on Saint Vincent College at 4:00 p.m.
