Bethany Lacrosse Defeated by Muskingum

March 2 – NEW CONCORD, Ohio – The Bethany College lacrosse team was defeated by Muskingum University, 14-1, on Wednesday evening.

The Bison (0-2) found themselves trailing early as the Muskies (1-1) took a 5-0 lead after the first quarter of play.

Bethany quickly regrouped and tallied the first score of the second quarter after Jake Holland (Canton, Ohio/Jackson) took a pass from Grant Delaney (Wooster, Ohio/Wooster) and found the back of the net with 10:14 remaining.

Muskingum managed to score once more before the intermission to make it 6-1. Bethany outshot their opponent 17-8 in the second period.

The Fighting Muskies opened the second half with a quick score and added two more goals during the third quarter.

Bethany continued to attack the cage but failed to record another goal as they totaled 34 shots in the contest. Luke Gregor (Venetia, Pa./The Kiski School) led the Bison with 11 shots while Jacob Schiffer (Monkton, Md./Hereford) amassed nine shots and Tyler Peck (Pittsburgh, Pa./Shaler) added six.

Defensively, goaltender Sean Rhodes recorded 16 saves between the pipes. Midfielders Steven Pluas (Mt. Pocono, Pa./Keystone) and Brian Weakliem (Montgomery, N.J./Montgomery) caused two turnovers, each.

Schiffer led the Bison with six groundballs and Bryan Uth (Hedgesville, W. Va./Hedgsville) collected five groundballs to go along with five wins in the faceoff circle.

The Bison will return to action on Saturday, March 5 as they take on Shenandoah University at 4:00 p.m.
