Bison Lacrosse Falls to Capital in Season Opener

Feb. 27 – COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Bethany College men's lacrosse team opened the 2016 campaign by dropping a 24-3 decision to Capital University on Saturday afternoon. 

The host Crusaders controlled the opening three quarters of the game, outscoring the Bison in each of the first three frames. 

Junior goal keeper Sean Rhodes (Indiana, Pa./Indiana Area Senior) played well in his first game with the Green & White, stopping 20 shots through the opening three stanzas. 

The Bison found the net three times in the fourth quarter, posting seven shots in the frame. The Green & White's first goal of the 2016 season came from single-season record holder Jake Holland (Canton, Ohio/Jackson). The junior found the back of the net just 38 seconds into the quarter. The goal was the 46th of Holland's career.

Bethany posted two more goals in the game, with one each coming from Grant Delaney (Wooster, Ohio/Wooster) and Jacob Schiffer (Monkton, Md./Hereford). Delaney's marked the 48th of the senior's career, while Schiffer tallied his 11th. 

The trio led the offense for the Green & White, while the defensive effort was headed by Rhodes' 20 saves. Steve Pluas (Mt. Pocono, Pa./Keystone) totaled eight ground balls, while Bryan Uth (Hedgesville, W. Va./Hedgesville) led the way with 10. He also posted the team's best performance in the faceoff circle, winning 11 times.

The Bison will be back in action on Wednesday, March 2 as they travel to New Concord, Ohio to take on the Fighting Muskies of Muskingum University. The matchup is slated for a 5:00 p.m. start.
