Men's Lacrosse falls to Oglethorpe, 11-8

BETHANY, W.Va. (Mar. 4) - The Bethany College men's lacrosse team dropped a non-conference matchup, 11-8 to Oglethorpe (Ga.) on Saturday.

With the loss, Bethany falls to 1-1 on the season while Oglethorpe improves to 1-6 overall.

Dan Booth (Stockport, Manchester, England/Poynton) and Tyler Peck (Pittsburgh, Pa./Shaler) led the Bison with two goals apiece, while Booth added an assist. Shaka Conteh (Alexandria, Va./T.C. Williams)scored a goal, while tallying two assists. Will Gatling (Baltimore, Md./Northwestern), Anthony Helias (Erie, Pa./McDowell), and Brian Weakliem (Montgomery, N.J./Montgomery) all contributed as well. Jake Holland (Canton, Ohio/Jackson) also added two helpers in the loss.

The Green and White trailed 5-2 at halftime before the Stormy Petrels increased their lead to 8-2 in the middle of the third quarter.

With 2:21 left in the third, the Bison started a string of six-consecutive goals. Peck's first goal started the momentum, before Booth scored just 20 seconds later. Weakliem also found the back of the net right before the end of the third quarter to make the score 8-6. 

The Bison kept up the pressure early in fourth when Booth and Helias netted back-to-back goals to bring the game to a tie with just over 10 minutes to play. The Stormy Petrels closed the game out with three-unanswered goals and secured the victory.

Senior goalie Sean Rhodes (Indiana, Pa./Indiana) finished the game with 12 saves in the loss.

Oglethorpe held a 45-to-39 edge in shots and won 12 of the 23 faceoffs.

Next up, Bethany travels to La Roche on Monday, March 6 with a start time of 4 p.m.
