Men's lacrosse falls to Thiel, 16-5

BETHANY, W.Va. (April 14) - The Bethany College men's lacrosse team was defeated by Thiel 16-5 in a Ohio River Athletic Conference (ORLC) game Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Thiel asserted itself with eight-straight goals to begin the game, but the Bison clawed back into the match before halftime.
- Junior Will Gatling (Baltimore, Md./Northwestern) got Bethany on the board with 7:53 left in the first half and added another goal three minutes later to make the score 8-2
- The Bison closed the gap to five, 8-3, entering halftime when freshman Jacob Ranttila (Bennington, Vt. / Mount Anthony Union) found the back of the net with just over a minute left in the second quarter.
- The two squads traded goals to begin the second half, before the Tomcats tallied five-straight to establish a 14-4 lead near the five-minute mark of the fourth quarter.
- Gatling would add his third goal of the day off of a nice pass from senior Shaka Conteh (Alexandria, Va./T.C. Williams), but Thiel closed the game with two more markers to claim the win.
MATCH NOTES
- Bethany senior Sean Rhodes (Indiana, Pa./Indiana) made 16 saves on 33 shots on goal in the loss. Thiel attempted 54 shots in the game.
- Gatling led the team with three goals on eight shots. He was also 3-of-5 in faceoffs.
