Bison Pick Up Win on First Day of Fuzzy Williams Tournament

Sept. 10 - BETHANY, W. Va. - The Bethany College men's soccer team dialed up four goals in their win against Alfred State on Saturday in the Fuzzy Williams Tournament.

The Bison got to it early on in the first half, registering three shots in the first 10 minutes, with third putting the hosts on top 1-0. Freshman Jose Arzate (Waller, Tx. / Waller) took a Jay O'Donell (Cardiff, Wales/Radyr Comprehensive ) pass deep down field and as the keeper met Arzate, the midfielder went left for the score.

Just two minutes later, the Pioneers netted the equalizer off a corner kick in front of the net.

From there, Bethany kept attacking the net; however, they were not able to gain the advantage.

That was until Jack Waters (Epsom, United Kingdom/Glyn School) scored his second goal of the season in the 31st minute on a breakaway touch shot, just finding its way over the keepers head. The Bison would ride the 2-1 lead into the break.

Less than three minutes into the second half, Kai Whitney (Melbourne, Fla./Eau Gallie) gave The Green and White an insurance goal to put them up 3-1.

From there, Alfred State threw everything they could at Bethany, but the Bison defense always had an answer. Keeper Callum Appleby (Maidstone, United Kingdom/Maidstone) was appreciative, only having to make two of his seven saves in the second period.

In the 84th minute, Adam Franco (Inglewood, Ca./Carter) added the fourth Bethany goal of the afternoon to put the game out of reach for the Pioneers.

With the 4-1 win, Bethany is now 1-2-1 and will face Muskingum on Sunday at 3p.m.
