Bison Win Physical Match with Wilmington 1-0

Sept. 24 - BETHANY W. Va. - The Bethany men's soccer team won a physical 1-0 game with Wilmington (Ohio) on Saturday at Hoag Field.

Jose Arzate (Waller, Texas/Waller) was in the right place at the right time in the 11th minute after a Jack Waters (Epsom, United Kingdom/Glyn School) shot was deflected right back to the freshman to put Bethany up 1-0.  

Bethany held the majority of the offensive pressure for the first half, registering nine shots with five on-goal.

With ten minutes left in the first half, there was a throw in that resulted in a yellow card on Bethany and two yellow cards and one red card on Wilmington, forcing them to play a man down the rest of the game. The Bison carried the 1-0 lead into the break.

Bethany saw another chance to increase their lead in the 51st minute when Babacour Sellah (Arlington, Va./Fishburne Military) took a pass from Kai Whitney (Melbourne, Fla./Eau Gallie) but was not able to connect. 

The game stayed physical the entire second half but the Bison were able to hold onto the lead for the win.

With the win, the Bison improve to to 4-3-2 on the season. The Bison are back on the pitch for an away game at Mount Aloysius on Tuesday at 4:00p.m.
