Men’s Soccer wins 2-1 in double-overtime at Waynesburg

Oct. 1 - WAYNESBURG, Pa. - The Bethany men's soccer team needed two over time periods to defeat Waynesburg in their Presidents' Athletic Conference opener.

The first half played scoreless for both sides. Bethany ripped off 10 shots in the first half but was unable to find the back of the net.

In the 50th minute, the hosts jumped ahead 1-0 with a goal by Austin Zurik.

Up until the 81st minute, the Bison had only registered three shots in the second half. That was until Babacour Sellah-Mohammed (Arlington, Va. / Fishburne Military) found Adam Franco (Inglewood, Ca./Carter) whose shot evaded the keeper to tie it up at one apiece with just under ten minutes to play. It would remain 1-1 after regulation.

Bethany held the offensive momentum in the first overtime period, registering three shots but none were able to fall, leading to another ten minute period.

The Bison carried that pressure into the next period when in the 101st minute, Daniel Booth (Stockport, Cheshire, England/Poynton) found the net, giving the Bison the 2-1 win, their first in overtime this season.

Offensively, Franco led The Green and White with a goal on six shots while Booth's net finder was his only shot of the afternoon. Callum Appleby (Maidstone, United Kingdom/Maidstone) registered 11 saves in the game, his most in 2016.

With the win, Bethany improves to 5-4-2 (1-0, PAC) on the year while Waynesburg falls to 2-8 (0-1, PAC). Next up for the Bison, they travel to Penn State - Behrend on Wednesday Oct. 5 for their final non-conference match of the year. Kickoff is slated for 5 p.m.
