Bison use overtime to down Westminster 2-1

Oct. 22 - BETHANY, W.Va. - The Bethany men's soccer team defeated Westminster 2-1 in overtime on Saturday in a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) matchup.

After a scoreless first half, freshman Jose Saldivar (Moreno Valley, Calif./Valley View) found himself in the right spot on a rebound and sent the ball home to give the Bison the 1-0 lead.

Seven minutes later, the Titans tied it up on a ball downfield and Peter Mattocks slid passed the goalie to tie the game.

The two teams played out the rest of the half with neither side able to net the advantage, sending the match into overtime.

In the sixth minute of OT, Adam Franco (Inglewood, Calif./Carter) had a shot blocked that went out behind the net, giving the Bison a corner kick. Jack Waters (Epsom, United Kingdom/Glyn School) sent the corner to Saldivar, who headed the golden goal in to give the Green and White its fifth PAC win of the season.

In the victory, Saldivar scored his first and second goal of the season on three shots, while Waters also picked up two shots on goal. Callum Appleby (Maidstone, United Kingdom/Maidstone) made five stops on 12 shots faced.

In pregame, the program's seniors, Waters and Appleby, were honored before the game for their efforts over their four years.

Next, Bethany travels to Thomas More on Wednesday for a 1:30 p.m. game before finishing their regular season on Friday, Oct. 28 at Thiel in a game scheduled for 8:00 p.m.
