Oct. 15 - WASHINGTON, Pa. - The Bethany men's soccer team defeated Washington and Jefferson 3-2 in overtime after trailing for the first 88 minutes of the game.
W&J jumped on the board first in the 11th minute before adding another goal seven minutes later to take the early 2-0 advantage.
Bethany had plenty of offensive pressure on their end in the first half but just missed on several occasions until the 39th minute when Jack Waters (Epsom, United Kingdom/Glyn School) corner kick found Daniel Booth (Stockport, Cheshire, England/Poynton) on the receiving end who headed in the Bisons first goal. The score at halftime would stick at 2-1 in favor of the Presidents.
The first 43 minutes of the second half was a stalemate with the Presidents looming towards victory until Baboucar Sallah-Mohammed (Arlington, Va./Fishburne Military) found himself downfield in a one-on-one matchup where he beat his defender and the goalkeeper to tie the game at two and force overtime.
The Bison did not waste anytime as Jose Arzate (Waller, Texas/Waller) found himself in the front of the net and ripped the golden goal home off of a deflection.
For Bethany, Booth scored his second goal of the season while Sallah-Mohammed netted his third goal in two games. Callum Appleby (Maidstone, United Kingdom/Maidstone) tallied five saves on 13 shots faced.
With the win, the Bison now sit at 7-6-2 (3-1, PAC) while W&J drops to 4-6-2 (0-3-1, PAC). Next, Bethany hosts Geneva on Tuesday at Hoag Field for a 3:30 p.m. kickoff.
