Bison suffer heartbreaking loss in PAC Semifinals

Nov. 1 - BEAVER FALLS, PA. - The Bethany mens soccer team fell 1-0 to top seeded Geneva in the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) semifinal on Tuesday evening.

The game was scoreless for the first 87 minutes before Geneva's Abel Carleton had his shot deflect off of a Bison defender and into the net to break the stalemate.

In the first 20 minutes, the hosts generated a lot of offensive pressure with nothing to show.

in the 23rd minute, Jose Arzate (Waller, Texas/Waller) had his header deflected by a Geneva defender for the ball to find Baboucar Sallah-Mohammed (Arlington, Va./Fishburne Military) who had his shot fly high to keep it scoreless.

The second half began similarly to the first with Geneva getting to the net consistently but Callum Appleby (Maidstone, United Kingdom/Maidstone) and the Bison defenders held tough. In a three minute span starting in the 51st minute, Appleby made four crucial stops to keep Bethany in the game.

With the Golden Tornadoes' goal coming late in the game the Bison did not have much time to work. Daniel Booth (Stockport, Cheshire, England/Poynton) got off a last chance shot with under a minute to play but the keeper made the save to preserve the PAC Tournament win.

Appleby registered seven saves in the loss while Sallah and Adam Franco (Inglewood, Ca./Carter) each registered three shots for Bethany

Bethany ends the season with an 8-10-2 (4-4, PAC) record for their best season since 2011 when they finished 6-12 (4-4, PAC) and lost in the PAC semifinals.
