O'Donnell's Overtime Goal Pushes Bethany Past Alfred St.

WHEELING, W. Va. (BethanyBison.com) - Just 28 seconds into overtime, senior Jay O'Donnell (Cardiff, Wales/Radyr Comprehensive) strike lifted the Bethany College Men's Soccer team to a 3-2 win over Alfred St. on day two of the Fuzzy Williams Memorial Classic. The victory marks the first overtime win for the Green and White since 2016 when the Bison downed Westminster (Pa.), 2-1, October 22, 2016.

THE MATCHUP

  • Final: Bethany 3, Alfred St. 2 (Box Score)

  • Records: Bethany 2-2-1, Alfred St. 0-4

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • O'Donnell got the Bison on the board with an 8th minute strike. Coming down the right side, sophomore Iwan Mooney (Cardiff, Wales/Plasmawr) crossed the ball to a waiting O'Donnell who headed the ball into the back corner, giving Bethany the lead.

  • Alfred St. striker Albert Senyah knotted the score back up, 1-1, with a goal at 49:58.

  • Bethany mimicked it's first goal as sophomore Dylan Kidd (Baltimore, Md./John Carroll) used a header to register his second goal of the season and senior Danny Booth's (Manchester, England/Poynton) second assist on the campaign.

  • After a flurry of shots, the Pioneers found the back of net for the equalizer with just over 13 minutes remaining in the game.

  • Heading into overtime, O'Donnell used a pass from senior Kai Whitney (Melbourne Beach, Fla./Eau Gallie) to lift the Bison to their second win of the year.
