An Overtime Strike by Mooney Lifts Bison Over the Barons

BETHANY, WV (BethanyBison.com) - A 96th-minute strike from the foot of sophomore Iwan Mooney (Cardiff, Wales/Plasmawr) lifted the Bethany College men's soccer team to a 1-0 victory over Franciscan University inside Bison Stadium, Monday night, Sept. 24. The win marks the second time this campaign the Green and White were lifted in overtime play.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • After the score remained knotted through 90 minutes of play, the Bison secured its second overtime win of the season after freshman Gabe Leach (Wellsboro, Pa./Wellsboro) chipped the ball to Mooney who buried it into the top left corner.

MATCH NOTES

  • Despite being outshot by the Barons, 14-8, the Bison were solid on defense as sophomore Torben Grether (Rheinfelden, Germany/Georg-Buchner) posted a game-high seven saves through 96 minutes of action.

  • The pass to Mooney marked Leach's first helper of the season and the sixth for the squad for the campaign.

UP NEXT

The Bison will pack their bags as they hit the road this Saturday, Sept. 29, when they travel to Beaver Falls, Pa. to take on Geneva College. The men are slated to begin at 1 p.m. after the conclusion of the women's game.
