Sallah-Mohammed, Speedy claim ECAC, PAC weekly honors

DANBURY, Conn. (April 19) - Bethany College men's track & field sophomore Baboucar Sallah-Mohammed (Arlington, Va./Fishburne Military) and freshman Michael Speedy (Irondale, Ohio/Edison) were announced as the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division III South Field Athlete and Rookie of the Week for their performance at last week's Westminster Invitational.

The duo were also named the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) Field and Rookie of the Week, respectively, on Monday afternoon.

Sallah-Mohammed won both the triple and long jumps at the Westminster Invitational Saturday. He established a distance of 14.29 meters (46 feet, 10.5 inches) in the triple jump and finished with a mark of 7.04 meters (23 feet, one inch) in the long jump. Sallah-Mohammed owns the seventh-best mark in NCAA Division III in the triple jump and the 23rd-best distance in the long jump. Both marks sit atop the PAC Performance List.

The athlete of the week honor is the seventh this year field athlete of the week honor this year and third during outdoor season.

Speedy was named the PAC Rookie of the Week after he placed third in the long jump at the Westminster Invitational with a mark of 6.80 meters (22 feet, three inches). His mark currently ranks third in the PAC during the outdoor season. The weekly laurel is the first for Speedy, who was the PAC Indoor Champion in the long jump this past February. 

Sallah-Mohammed, Speedy and the rest of the Bison track & field teams will head to the PAC Championships on Wednesday, April 25 in New Wilmington, Pennsylvania.
