Bison Softball Drops Two Decisions to Westminster

April 12 – BETHANY, W. Va. – The Bethany College softball team fell twice in a Presidents' Athletic Conference doubleheader against Westminster College on Tuesday afternoon. The Bison were defeated 2-0 in the first game before falling 8-2 in game two.

In the opener, sophomore Cassie Weiss (Washington, Pa./McGuffey) started on the mound for the Bison (9-15, 3-3 PAC). Weiss threw a complete game, allowing just one earned run on six hits to go along with five strikeouts.

The two teams remained scoreless through the first four innings before Westminster (13-11, 6-0 PAC) recorded two runs in the top of the fifth. The Titans totaled three hits in the inning and used a Bison error to take a 2-0 lead.

The Bethany offense was kept in check throughout the contest as Westminster held on late for the 2-0 victory.

Offensively, sophomore Aubrey Baehr (Evans City, Pa./Seneca Valley) led the Bison as she finished 1-for-2 at the plate. Senior Marissa Bosley (New Martinsville, W. Va./Magnolia) reached base twice against the Titans with two walks.

Bethany jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead in the second game after Bosley hit a two-run homer in the bottom of the first inning.

Sophomore Samantha Binkley (Ontario, Canada/St. James) received the start in game two against the Titans. Binkley couldn't be touched early, holding Wesminster scoreless after four innings.

In the fifth inning, the Titans rallied to retake the lead. Westminster used four hits to score three runs and claim a 3-2 advantage over the Bison. Westminster added to their lead in their following at bats, exploding for five more runs on five hits.

Senior Deanna Mihalco (Patterson, N.Y./Brewster) singled in the sixth inning to try and spark the Bison offense. Westminster, however, remained solid on the defensive end as they ended the inning and held on for the eventual 8-2 victory.

Bosley led the Bison offense with the homer and two RBIs. Baehr and sophomore Jasmine Fuqua (Washington, Pa./Trinity) collected base hits as well.
