Softball Splits with Hiram

Bethany, W. Va - The Bethany College softball team took on Hiram in a non-conference tilt Sunday afternoon at Bison Field. The Bison split with the Terriers.

Game One Overview

Bethany defeated Hiram, 3-2 (F/8)

The Terriers got on the scoreboard first in the top of the third inning. Bethany tied the ballgame in the fifth inning with Lauren Maichle driving in Janaya Hazlip. The green and white and Hiram held each other to the lone run taking the game to extra innings. With the international tiebreaker rule in place, the Terriers were able to go ahead 2-1 in the eighth inning. In the bottom of the eighth, with two outs and two runners in scoring position, Tyra Bell doubled to give the Bison the walk off victory.

Game Two Overview
Bethany fell 10-7 to Hiram

Hiram started game two with getting on the scoreboard first in the second inning. Bethany answered in the bottom of the inning taking a 3-1 lead. A wild pitch let Jennifer Oberthur score. Kaitlyn Mills singled scoring Tyra Bell and Kathleen Fuchs. In the third inning the Bison gave up seven runs to give the Terriers a 8-3 lead and after four innings the Terriers led 9-3. The green and white kept battling, scoring two runs in the bottom of the fifth. Kayla Dinsmore drove in Fran Capaldi and Jennifer Obethur's single scored Erica Amoroso. Bethany trailed 9-4. In the bottom of the sixth, the Bison continued to battle back. Singles from Maichle and Amoroso drove in Kaitlyn Mills and Janaya Hazlip. Unfortunately, the Bison comeback would fall short.
