Women’s Basketball ousted by Waynesburg, 72-62

BETHANY, W.Va. (Nov. 30) - The Bethany College women's basketball team fell in their Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) opener 72-62 to Waynesburg on Wednesday night. 

The Bison fall to 2-4 overall, 0-1 in the PAC. Meanwhile, the Yellow Jackets improve to 1-0 in league play, 3-2 overall.

Junior forward Kelsea Daugherty (Newport, Ohio/Frontier) recorded a double-double with 15 points and 11 rebounds to lead the team. Senior guard Hayley Holenka (Shadyside, Ohio/Shadyside) and sophomore guard Ashley Duthie (Madison, Ohio / Madison) each dropped 15 points for Bethany, while junior forward Kelsi Settle (Sebring, Ohio/Sebring) tallied six points and nine rebounds in the loss.

The Bison held a 14-12 first quarter lead after Holenka recorded six points in the opening period. 

The Yellow Jackets rallied back and took a 29-27 lead into the locker rooms after posting 14 points in the paint, including six second-chance points.

Waynesburg extended its lead to seven in the third quarter, led by Addy Knetzer who had 10 points and six rebounds in the frame. Holenka and Duthie had six and five respectively in the quarter to keep the Bison close.

The Bison increased the pressure in the fourth quarter with four second-chance points and three off of turnovers; however, the Yellow Jackets never let the hosts within seven points throughout the final period to secure the PAC opener for both teams.

The Bison will travel to Beaver Falls, Pennsylvania on Saturday, November 3 to take on Geneva in a game slated to tip at 1 p.m.
