Women's Basketball defeated by Grove City 85-58

GROVE CITY, Pa. - Jan. 14 - The Bethany women's Basketball team fell to Grove City 85-58 on Saturday in a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) contest.

With the loss, Bethany falls to 7-8 (5-3, PAC) and Grove City improves to 8-7 (4-4, PAC).

Leading the way for the Bison was Hayley Holenka (Shadyside, Ohio/Shadyside) with 12 points. Kelsea Daugherty (Newport, Ohio/Frontier) and Payge Farmer (Wellsburg, W.Va./Brooke) followed with 11 points, while Sammie Weiss (Avella, Pa./McGuffey) added 10.

In the early minutes, Weiss hit a three pointer to give the Bison the 6-4 lead. After GCC went on a 9-2 run, the Bison stormed back with a 9-3 run of their own to end the first quarter with the 17-16 lead.

A Grove City trey gave them the 21-19 lead with just under eight minutes to play in the second quarter. Farmer answered by scoring the next four points for Bethany to regain the lead at 23-21 with 6:32 to play in the half. 

 Over the next three minutes, the hosts went on a 9-0 run to take the 30-23 advantage. However, in the closing minutes, Holenka hit two key three pointers to bring the Bison back within three. Grove City entered the locker room with the 32-30 lead.

GCC jumped out to a 12-0 run to start the second half before Holenka hit a jumper to end the streak followed by a Farmer three a few minutes later to bring their deficit to 44-35. 

The hosts would pull away later in the third heading into the final quarter with the 63-40 lead.
