Ashley Duthie’s Double-Double Leads Bethany to a 54-41 victory over Geneva

Bethany, Wv- Bethany College Women's basketball earns a 54-41 victory over Geneva in the PAC opener Wednesday night. Senior Ashley Duthie (Madison, Oh/Madison) had a team high 14 points and 10 rebounds, giving her a double-double for the first time this season. The Bison are now 4-2 (1-0) on the season while Geneva drops to 1-3 (0-1).

Bethany was led by four players with double figures in win Wednesday night. Senior Ashley Duthie was accompanied by Sophmores Janaya Hazlip (McKees Rocks,Pa/Sto-Rox) and Allison Kuhn (Lewisville, Oh/Monroe Central). Hazlip and Kuhn both added 11 points. Kuhn also pulled down eight rebounds for the Bison. Sophomore Haylie Glass (Mercer, Pa/Mercer) put ten points on the board to round out the leading scorers for the Bison. Sophomore Makayla Reynolds (Buckhannon, Wv/Buckhannon-Upshur) pulled down eight rebounds for the Green and White.

The Green and White jumped out to a quick start gaining a 10-1 lead halfway through the first quarter. Bethany would hold Geneva to one point until the 2:24 mark of the first quarter. The Bison ended the first quarter with a 19-7 lead and would quickly see their lead diminish in the second quarter. The Bison offense went cold in the second quarter, letting the Golden Tornadoes outscore them 12-4. The Green and White held a 23-19 lead at halftime.

Bethany and Geneva would exchange layups in the beginning moments of the third quarter, but Bethany would keep momentum after Kuhn hit a shot from beyond the arc to take the lead to 28-23. A layup from Courtney Walker (Moundsville, Wv/Cameron) and a quick jumper in the lane from Hazlip would extend the lead to 32-27. The Bison would close out the third quarter with a buzzer beater jumper from Duthie, making the lead 35-30. Geneva scored off of a quick layup to start the fourth quarter and hit a jumper off of a Bethany turnover. The Golden Tornadoes' three pointer by Callie Ford would tie the game at 37-37, but it wouldn't last long as the Bison came down the floor and got a Kuhn three to bring them back ahead. The Green and White would maintain the lead for the rest of the game extending their lead up to 13 by the end.

The Bison look to keep momentum going in PAC play next Wednesday when they travel to Grove City, Pa to take on the Wolverine at 5:30pm.
