Bison Defeated on the Road to the Wolverines, 76-49

Grove City, Pa- The Bethany College Women's Basketball team dropped its first PAC road game to Grove City 76-49, Wednesday night. The Bison were led by a career high 14 points from freshman Kelsie Meintel (Moundsville, W. Va/Cameron). The green and white are now 4-3 (1-1) and the Wolverines move to 5-3 (2-1).


GAME OVERVIEW
The Bison and Wolverines traded buckets throughout the first quarter. The Wolverines started the game with three but the Bison came down and got two from Ashley Duthie (Madison, Ohio/Madison) points from charity stripe. The green and white's ball movement gave Meintel a wide open layup to tie the game at eight a piece from Allison Kuhn (Lewisville, Ohio/Monroe Central) dish. The Bison and Wolverines would battle back and forth ending the first quarter tied at 16.


The green and white battled in the second quarter but saw the lead begin to grow, trailing by as many as six. Bethany received a bucket from beyond the arc from Duthie to bring the Bison within 3 with 4:21 left in the second quarter. Back to back threes from the Wolverines grew the lead to six. The Bison would trail at the half 37-32.
The second half wasn't what the Bison had hoped for, giving up a 23-0 run before a Sammie Weiss (Taylorstown, Pa/McGuffey) trip to the free throw line at the 4:18 mark in the third quarter. Bethany's efforts to comeback were out of reach, trailing by as much as 27.

  • Freshman Kelsie Meintel led the Bison with 14 points
  • The Bison out rebounded the Wolverines 34-33, led by senior Sammie Weiss who pulled down seven.
  • Senior Sammie Weiss added 13 points shooting 7-8 from the foul line.
  • The Bison shot 20-32 from the foul line and gave the Wolverines 17 points from the charity stripe in 21 attempts.
  • Sophomore Allison Kuhn dished out four assists for the Bison.
