Balanced scoring leads Bethany to 75-61 victory over Penn St Beaver

Bethany, W.Va. - The Bethany College Women's Basketball team rolled past Penn. St. Beaver 75-61, Monday afternoon inside Hummel Field house. Balanced scoring led the Bison, with four players scoring in double figures. The green and white were led by sophomore Makayla Reynolds (Buckhannon, W.Va./Buckhannon-Upsur) with season high 18 points. The Bison are now 6-4 (2-1) and the Lady Lions fall to 10-2.

GAME OVERVIEW
1st- The Bison ran out to a 6-0 lead with back to back lay ups fromKelsie Meintel (Moundsville, W.Va./Cameron) and Janaya Hazlip (McKees Rocks, Pa/ Sto-Rox). The green and white extended their lead to seven before a Penn. St. Beaver three to bring the Lions within four. Bethany shot 46.7% from the field and led 17-8 at the end of the first.

2nd- Bethany continued their hot shooting scoring 24 points on 71.4% from the field in the second quarter. The Bison would lead by as many as 20 points, holding Penn. St. Beaver to 17 points. The green and white went into the locker room at halftime leading 41-25.

3rd- Penn. St. Beaver started to make a run in the beginning of the second half scoring a quick five points, after a Bethany timeout the Bison regained control and built the lead back up to 13. The Lady Lions continued to battle back cutting the lead back to nine, but the Bison rallied back to took the lead into the fourth quarter 68-41.

4th- Bethany held a commanding lead over Penn. St. Beaver despite giving up a 20-7 run.

IN THE BOX SCORE
• Sophomore Makayla Reynolds scored a season high 18 points shooting 9-10 from the field
• Sophomore Janaya Hazlip had a career high eight assists while adding 14 points for the Bison
• The Bison dished out a season high 20 assists while shooting 46.8% from the field
• The green and white out rebounded the Lady Lions 38-26, getting 16 second chance points
• Bethany capitalized off of the Lady Lions 21 turnovers scoring 21 points
• Sophomore Allison Kuhn (Lewisville, Ohio/ Monroe Central) contributed 12 points and dished out three assists
• The Bison had 31 bench points led by Senior Sammie Weiss (Taylorstown, Pa./ McGuffey) added 12 points

Head Coach Brian Sansom:
"Always nice to get a win heading into a break. Even with 21 turnovers I thought our offense looked much better tonight! When we slow down, and know where our teammates are going to be and make those extra passes we're a pretty good basketball team! We have to continue to learn to compete for 40mins and not have those mental lapses we do throughout a game! Makayla played the best game of her career tonight! Janaya, Allison, Sammie and others all had good games! Ashley Duthie played really good defense on their best player limiting her some on offense! Special teams was awesome for us tonight, we scored a bunch of points off our out of bounds plays! Those points can be a difference in close games! I love my players and I am hard on them at times, but I tell them I will hold them accountable for playing our brand of basketball and doing the right things on and off the court because i want them to realize how great they can be as people, students and basketball players!"

Bethany returns the court Friday December 28, when they travel to Winchester, Va to take on Shenandoah in a non-conference match-up. Tip-off is set for 12 pm.
