Women's Basketball unable to overcome early deficit to Allegheny

Meadville, Pa – The Bethany College women's basketball team hit the road for a non-conference tilt against the Allegheny College Gators Wednesday evening inside the Wise Center. The game was originally scheduled for Tuesday evening, but was postponed due to inclement weather. The Bison fell to the Gators, 58-43. The Green and White were led by freshman Abbey Dobbins who notched a career high 13 points. Freshman Samaria Murry pulled in a career high 10 boards for the Bison.

GAME OVERVIEW

Bethany struck first with a layup from Samaria Murry to start the game. The Bison held the lead for majority of the first quarter. The Gators knotted the game three times before taking over with 3:38 minutes to go in the first quarter and held the Bison to two points in the final three minutes. The Green and White trailed by six at the end of one.

In the second quarter, the Gators continued to build on their lead, leading by as many as 18 before an Allison Kuhn old fashion three point play, to cut the lead to 29-14. The Green and White battled but couldn't cut the lead. With 2:12 left in the half, the Bison were able cut the lead to 12 off of an Alexis Heap field goal but the Gators went on another run to build the lead back up to 19. Bethany trailed Allegheny 40-21 at the half.

The third quarter the Bison held the Gators to just 11 points and in the fourth quarter, the Green and White outscored the Gators 13-7, but the first half deficit was too much for the Bison to overcome. The Bison shot 36.0 percent from the field and a cold 50.0 percent from the free throw line, while the Gators shots 38.8 percent from the field and 77.8 percent from the charity stripe.
