Second Half Surge Lifts Fighting Scots over Bison

Wooster, Ohio – The Bethany College women's basketball team hit the road for the Nan Nichols Classic held at the College of Wooster. The Bison faced the Fighting Scots Saturday afternoon in the second game of the classic. The Fight Scots used a second half surge to defeat the Bison. 75-54. Allison Kuhn and Courtney Walker led the Bison with 14 points apiece.

GAME OVERVIEW

Both teams got off to a sloppy start with turnovers and missed opportunities. The Bison struck first with a Sophie Morey shot from behind the arc at the 8:03 mark of the first quarter. Allison Kuhn hit two freebies from the charity stripe to extend the Bison lead to 5-2. The Fighting Scots cut the lead to one but a Courtney Walker three extended the Green and White's lead, 8-4. With under two minutes to go in the first stanza, the Fighting Scots took the lead, 9-8 and hit another bucket to make it 11-8. Kelsie Meintel made a short jumper to cut the lead to 11-10.

In the second quarter, the Bison and Fighting Scots battled with the Green and White knotting the game at 15-15 with 8:56 to go off of a Walker trey. Wooster wouldn't back down, regaining the lead off of a free throw. However, the Bison kept battling, with 4:30 to go in the half, Kuhn nailed a three pointer to cut the lead to three, 26-23. With under a minute to go in the half, Taylor Stinnett hit a three for the Bison to make the score, 30-29, but seconds later, the Fighting Scots scored to extend the lead. Bethany trailed 32-29 at the half.

Wooster used the momentum out of the half to keep the lead. The Fighting Scots led by as many as 10 in the third quarter. A Glass three pointer at the end of the third cut the lead to five, 53-48. Three straight shots from behind the arc, gave the Fighting Scots a commanding lead in the fourth quarter. The Bison were held to six points in the final stanza.
