Women's Basketball Falls to Oberlin

Wooster, Ohio – The Bethany College women's basketball team finished day two of the Nan Nichols Classic held at the College of Wooster. The Bison faced the Oberlin College Yeowomen early Sunday afternoon. The Green and White fell to the Yeowomen, 67-47. The Bison were led by Courtney Walker and Haylie Glass with 11 points each.

GAME OVERVIEW

The Bison and Yeowomen got off to slow starts with a few turnovers and missed shots. The Yeowomen got on the scoreboard first from a jumper in the paint. Bethany's Courtney Walker knocked in two of her free throws to knot the game at 2-2. The Bison were held scoreless for the next four minutes, allowing the Yeowomen to take a commanding 13 point lead. The Green and White's Haylie Glass hit a jumper from behind the arc to cut the lead to 10, 15-5 with 4:06 to go in the first quarter. The Bison continued to scrap but shot a cold 23.1 percent from the field. Bethany trailed 21-12 at the end of the first stanza.

A Walker three cut the lead to six in the opening minutes of the second quarter. Walker also knocked in two freebies from the charity stripe, to cut the Yeowomen lead to four, 21-17. However, Oberlin capitalized on Bethany's missed shots and knocked in crucial buckets to extend the lead back up to 14 with 5:24 to go in the second quarter. Bethany battled to cut the lead to 36-27 off of two Taylor Stinnett free throws before the end of the half.

In the third stanza, the Bison and Yeowomen kept battling back and forth exchanging buckets. A Glass three pointer cut the lead to single digits, 42-34, but Oberlin answered with a three of their own. On the next Bethany possession, Walker nailed a shot from behind the arc to cut the lead back to single digits. The Bison were unable to get passed the eight point mark and trailed by 15 at the end of three.

In the fourth quarter, Bethany held Oberlin to just 11 points, but couldn't cut the deficit to comeback. The Bison shot a cold, 21.1 percent from the field, while Oberlin was 50.0 percent from the field throughout the game. 17 of Bethany's points came from the charity stripe and scored 13 points off of Oberlin's turnovers. The Bison out rebounded the Yeowomen 37-24.
