Turnovers Prove Costly as Women's Basketball Falls to Penn State-Beaver

Monaca, Pa – The Bethany College women's basketball team faced the Penn State-Beaver Lions in a non-conference matchup Wednesday evening. The Green and White's comeback fell short late in the fourth quarter, falling to the Lions, 58-49. The Bison were led by Kelsie Meintel's double-double with 18 points and 10 rebounds.

GAME OVERVIEW

It was a slow first quarter for the Bison and Lions as both teams were a hassle on defense. The Lions scored first at the 8:07 mark. A Meintel layup knotted the game at 2-2. The Green and White gained the lead with under two minutes to go in the first stanza from an Allison Kuhn trey. Bethany led 8-7 at the end of the first.

In the second, the Lions regained the lead going up 12-8. An old fashion three point play from Haylie Glass cut the lead to one, 12-11. Meintel knocked in two free throws to give the Bison a one point lead with 7:42 to go in the half. Moments later, the Lions went on a run to regain the lead and go up 21-13. The Bison battled back, cutting the lead and eventually knotting the game at 21-21 from a Meintel layup. She scored the next seven points for the Green and White to give Bethany a 27-21 lead at the half.

The Bison maintained the lead throughout the third quarter, a jumper from the Lions' with under a minute left in the third cut the Bison lead to 41-38. The Lions took momentum into the fourth quarter, outscoring the Bison 20-8 to give the Lions the lead and the game. The Green and White turned the ball over 32 times allowing the Lions to score 27 points off of turnovers. Bethany out rebounded Penn State-Beaver 39-24 and shot 76.5 percent from the charity stripe.
