Bethany's Ice-Cold Shooting Leads to Loss at MSU

Montclair, NJ – The Bethany College women's basketball team traveled to Montclair, NJ for the MSU Holiday Tournament, held by Montclair State University. The Bison faced the Red Hawks to open up tournament play Saturday afternoon inside the Panzer Athletic Center. The Bison's cold shooting allowed the Red Hawks to cruise by and defeat the Green and White, 71-29. Courtney Walker led the Bison with nine points and six boards.

GAME OVERVIEW

Both teams started out slow in the opening minutes of the contest. MSU took a 5-0 lead until a Kelsie Meintel layup that put the Bison on the board. Back to back field goals from Courtney Walker gave the Bison a 7-5 lead. Both the Bison and Red Hawks exchanged buckets with the Green and White taking a 10-9 lead with 3:02 to go in the first stanza. MSU recaptured the lead, leading 13-10 at the end of one.

The Bison were held scoreless for the first six minutes and change of the second quarter. The Green and White shot a cold, 1-15 from the field and were held to just five points in the second stanza. During the course of the second quarter, MSU took a commanding lead going into the break, 28-15.

Bethany came out of the break on a six point run to bring the game within single digits, but the Red Hawks battled and used their speed to pull away from the Bison. In second half, the Bison were held to just five field goals on 25 attempts. The Green and White were held to just 10 field goals, which is a season low this season.
