Women's Basketball: Cold shooting dooms Bison in loss to Gators
BETHANY, W.Va. – The Bethany College women's basketball team struggled to find an offensive rhythm Tuesday evening as the Bison dropped a 73-55 decision to Allegheny College inside Hummel Field House.
GAME FLOW
- Allegheny and Bethany exchanged buckets with Ashleigh Wheeler giving the Bison a 3-2 lead.
- The early Bison lead would be the last that the Green and White saw the lead. The Gators went on a 13-2 run to take a 15-5 lead.
- Allegheny led 23-11 after the first stanza.
- In the second period, the Gators extended their lead to 20, taking a 41-21 lead into the halftime break.
- The Gators continued their hot shooting from the field in the third quarter. Allegheny shot 8-for-13 (61.5%) while the Bison shot 7-for-22 (31.8%).
- In the fourth the Bison outscored the Gators, 19-13.
IN THE BOX SCORE
- Sophomore Ashleigh Wheeler led the Bison with 14 points. She had four rebounds, and two steals.
- Junior Makenzee Mason added 12 points and a team-high eight rebounds. She had three assists and three steals.
BY THE NUMBERS
- Allegheny shot 48.5% from the field (32-66) while Bethany shot 34.4% (21-61).
- The Bison shot 91.7% (11-12) from the charity stripe.
- Both teams were even in rebounds with 33.
- The Bison had 17 turnovers while the Gators had 16. The Gators had 16 points off of turnovers with the Bison scoring 14.
