Women's Basketball: Strong offensive performance lifts Bison past Yellow Jackets
BETHANY, W.Va. – Led by a strong offensive performance, Bethany College women's basketball team cruised to a 98-79 win over Waynesburg University Saturday afternoon.
GAME FLOW
- Senior Alyssa Serensky scored Bethany's first 11 points of the game, giving the Bison an 11-5 lead.
- The Yellow Jackets used a 6-0 run to knot the game at 11-11.
- Both teams battled back and forth, exchanging baskets. Bethany took a 31-25 lead heading into the second quarter.
- In the second quarter, the Bison exploded on offense, outscoring the Yellow Jackets 30-13. The Bison led by as many as 28, taking a 61-38 lead into the halftime break.
- Waynesburg made adjustments during the intermission and came out to outscore Bethany, 24-19. The Yellow Jackets cut the deficit to 13 to start the second half. However, the Bison strung together some points to extend the lead back up to 21.
- Bethany led 80-62 after three.
- The Bison edged the Yellow Jackets, 18-17 in the final quarter of play.
- Waynesburg battled to cut the deficit to 11, going on a 13-6 run.
- Bethany would hold Waynesburg to four points in the final five minutes of play.
IN THE BOX SCORE
- Lindsey Garrison led the Bison with 22 points, nine assists and seven steals. She shot 8-for-12 from the field and 4-for-6 from behind the arc.
- Alyssa Serensky added 21 points, shooting 5-for-5 from behind the arc.
- Bella Skobel added 16 points and seven rebounds.
- Makenzee Mason had 14 points off the bench.
- Kate Botti earned her first double-double of her career with 10 points and 10 rebounds.
BY THE NUMBERS
- The Bison shot 52.2 percent from the field and from behind the arc.
- Waynesburg out rebounded Bethany, 42-32.
- Bethany scored 26 points off turnovers.
