Women's Lacrosse: Bethany Earns Overtime Win Over Heidelberg
Bethany, W.Va. – The Bethany College women's lacrosse team opened the 2022 season at home against the Heidelberg University Student Princes Sunday afternoon inside Bison Stadium.
THE BASICS
Final Score: Bethany 12, Heidelberg 11
Records: Bethany (1-0, 0-0); Heidelberg (0-1, 0-0).
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Bethany took a 3-0 lead after one period of play. Senior Cassidy Mailloux scored two goals in the first period. Rikiah Wise scored Bethany's first goal of the season.
- The Bison pulled ahead 7-1. Heidelberg went on a six goal run to cut the Bison lead 8-7.
- In the third period, Heidelberg scored first to deadlock the game at 8-8. The Bison pulled ahead with 3:29 to go in the third after a Rikiah Wise goal. Heidelberg knotted the game again before the end of the third period.
- In the fourth both teams battled to deadlock the game. With a 1:24 Bethany knotted the game at 11-11 to send it in overtime.
- In the overtime period, the Bison scored with less than a minute remaining. Alexa Taylor scooped up a groundball and ran down the field to score the final goal of the game.
BISON TOP PERFORMERS
- Rikiah Wise had a team-high five goals and one assists.
- Cassidy Mailloux added four goals and one assist. She caused four turnovers.
- Karley Trinidad had two goals.
- Alexa Taylor had one goal and one assist.
- Kassidy Stephens had a team high seven caused turnovers and scooped up eight groundballs.
STATS OF THE GAME
- Bison took 29 shots and caused 24 turnovers.
