Women's Soccer Drops Season Opener to Pitt-Greensburg, 4-2

Sept. 2 – ALVERTON, Pa. – The Bethany women's soccer team dropped their first match of the 2016 season to Pitt-Greensburg, 4-2.

Pitt-Greensburg received three first half goals, all by Kayleen Schwegler.

Bethany almost gained the early advantage on a shot wide by Michaela Hinerman (Weirton, W.Va./Brooke) in the sixth minute.

UPG put the first goal up in the 11th minute, when Schwegler stole the ball off of a goal kick and scored to put the Bobcats up 1-0 early. Schwegler then picked up her second and third goals in the 24th minute and in the 45th minute to put UPG up 3-0 at half.

During the 58th minute, Lexie Metz (Frostburg, MD/Mountain Ridge) tried to shorten the deficit with Bethany's first shot-on-goal.

Then, at the 73th minute after UPG netted a fourth goal, senior Brittany Fullbright (Wadsworth, Ohio/Wadsworth) put the Bison on the board for the first time this season on a penalty kick to make the score 4-1.

Freshman Sam Zoeller (Washington, Pa. / McGuffey High School) followed by shortening the deficit in the 86th minute on a shot over the goalkeeper from 18 yards out, making the score 4-2.

However, after a solid push in the second half, Bethany was unable to mount the Bobcats.

The Bison fall to 0-1 but are back in action Monday, Sept. 5, when they play host to Marietta at 4:30 p.m. in Bison Stadium.
