LATROBE, Pa. (Oct. 29) - A goal early in the second half was the difference in the Bethany College women's soccer team's 1-0 loss at Saint Vincent Sunday afternoon in a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) match to wrap-up the 2017 season.

THE MATCHUP

  • Final: Saint Vincent 1, Bethany 0 (Box Score)
  • Records: Bethany 6-13, 4-5 PAC | Saint Vincent 2-14-1, 2-7 PAC
  • Location: SVC Turf | Latrobe, Pennsylvania

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Saint Vincent out-shot Bethany 11-to-zero in the first half, but only three were on net. Senior goalkeeper Anna Riddle (Mount Pleasant, Pa./Mount Pleasant) stopped all three shots-on-goal and helped the Bison head into halftime in a scoreless tie.
  • Less than four minutes into the second half of play, Saint Vincent notched the eventual game-winning goal. A free-kick attempt by Natalie Luppold from just outside the box was put into the top-right corner of the net and beat Riddle to give the Bearcats a 1-0 lead.
  • Bethany made a push between the 66th and 75th minutes of the match when the Bison attempted a trio of corner kicks. Bethany came up empty on each attempt, including a header attempt in the 75th-minute off of a corner that went wide.

MATCH NOTES

  • Riddle made 11 saves on 12 shots-on-goal, while making her final appearance in net for the Bison.
  • Freshman Riley Meyers (Dubois, Pa./Dubois Central Catholic) wrapped up her rookie campaign with a pair of shots. She led the team and finished in a tie for fifth in the PAC with seven goals this season.
  • The six wins by Bethany this year under second-year Head Coach Jon Arlet doubles the win total from 2016 and is the most by the team since the Bison won five games in 2014.
