Arlet resigns as Bethany women's soccer coach

Arlet resigns as Bethany women's soccer coach

Andrew Woodley, Sports Information Director

BETHANY, W.Va. (Feb. 23) - Bethany College will immediately begin the search for its next women's soccer head coach following the resignation of Jon Arlet, who has accepted the same position at NCAA Division II Mercyhurst.

Arlet led the Bison to six wins this past season, which doubled the win total from 2016 and is the most by the team since Bethany won five games in 2014. The signature win of Arlet's tenure came against Thomas More this past season. Bethany snapped perennial-league power Thomas More's 55-match streak without a loss to a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) opponent in a 1-0 win in October.

In the second season of his two-year stint as the Bethany head coach, the Bison won four conference games, which matched the win total against PAC foes from the previous three seasons combined.

Under Arlet, freshman Riley Meyers (Dubois, Pa./Dubois Central Catholic) became the first player at Bethany to be named to one of the top-two all-conference teams since Julie Lindenfelser in 2012. Meyers wrapped up her rookie campaign with a team-leading seven goals this season (14 points), which ranked in a tie for fifth in the PAC at the conclusion of the regular-season.

"I want to thank Jon for his seasons with the program," said Bethany Athletic Director Brian Rose. "Jon has built it quite far from when he took over and we have a very good foundation for the next head coach to continue building."

Bethany will begin a search for its next women's soccer head coach immediately.
