Women's tennis picks up first win of season over Muskingum, 9-0

BETHANY, W.Va. (Sept. 22) - The Bethany College women's tennis team earned its first win of the season with a 9-0 win over Muskingum Friday afternoon in a non-conference match.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Bethany earned its first win of the season and first win since the 2012 season in the decisive victory.
  • The Bison claimed all three doubles matchups, including a forfeit win at No. 3 doubles due to insufficent players for the Muskies.
  • Kristin Schafbuch (Marpingen, Germany/Arnold Janssen) Alyssa Smydo (Scenery Hill, Pa./Bentworth) earned an 8-0 sweep at No. 1 doubles.
  • Both went on to win their matches at No. 1 and 2 singles, respectively. Schafbuch took the top position 6-1, 6-2, while Smydo notched a 6-2, 6-3 win at No. 2 singles.
  • Juniors Emily Folk (Hagerstown, Md./North Hagerstown) and Fran Capaldi (Steubenville, Ohio/Catholic Central) won at No. 2 doubles 8-2.
  • Folk went on the win at No. 3 singles 6-2, 6-2 in straight sets, while Capaldi was a straight sets winner by scores of 6-1, 6-0 at No. 5 singles.
  • Freshman Dawson McHarg claimed the Bison's other win at No. 4 singles with a 6-3, 6-2 win.

  • Bethany is at home again tomorrow, Saturday, September 23 when they host Frostburg State for a non-conference match.
