Bison Women’s Track and Field Picked to Finish Seventh in Preseason Poll

Bethany, WV (BethanyBison.com) - The Bethany College Women's indoor track and field team was chosen to finish seventh in the Presidents Athletic Conference (PAC) preseason coaches' poll Friday afternoon.

 

For the second straight year, Waynesburg was tabbed as league favorite. The Yellowjackets are followed by Westminster, Geneva, Washington & Jefferson, and Grove City to round out the top five.

 

Among the top performers chosen in the PAC's Athletes to Watch List are a trio of Bison. Seniors Leighanna Frantz (East Liverpool, Ohio/East Liverpool) and Patience Frazier (Washington, Pa/Washington), and Junior Amanda Gower (Washington, Pa/Trinity) were chosen for Bethany College.

 

Last season, Frantz won the high jump, clearing 4 feet, 8.75 inches (1.44m) and landed in 10th place in the long jump at (14-06.50, 4.43m). In 2017, Frantz also won the high jump and was runner-up in 2016.

 

Senior Frazier earned all-conference honors last season, receiving third place in weight throw with a distance of 12.52m (14 feet, 6.5 inches).  As a sophomore, Frazier finished 3rd in weight throw and 7th in shot put. In 2016, Frazier landed in 6th in weight throw and 10th in shot put at the PAC Championships.

 

In the 2018 season, junior sprinter Gower finished in the top 10 twice in the PAC Championships. She finished fifth in the 400 meter run with a time of one minute, 2.6 seconds. Gower also ran the 200-meter dash in 27.72 seconds landing her seventh place.

The Bison open up the indoor season January 19, at the Marietta-Pioneer Open.
