Volleyball Splits at Waynesburg Tri-Match

WAYNESBURG, PA. (BethanyBison.com) - The Bethany College Volleyball team split the day at the Waynesburg Tri-Match, Saturday, Sept. 8, inside the Marisa Fieldhouse. The Bison opened with a 3-1 victory over host, Waynesburg University, before falling to Washington & Jefferson College, 3-1.

 

THE MATCHUP

  • Match 1 Final: Bethany 3, Waynesburg 1 (Box Score)

  • Match 2 Final: Bethany 1, Washington & Jefferson 3 (Box Score)

 

BETHANY VS. WAYNESBURG

  • The Bison and the Yellow Jackets traded points throughout the first set as the Green and White never trailed by more than four. Bethany could not keep up with Waynesburg's offense as the Yellow Jackets were hitting at .192 compared to Bethany's .081.

  • Bethany found the grove in the second set as they hit a blistering .219 to take the set, 25-12. The Bison did not let up there as they hit a game-high .255 and .250 in the third and fourth set, respectively.

  • The Green and White produced a season-high 52 kills, 22 of which came from junior Katie Sparks (Macedonia, Ohio/Trinity) for a .333 hitting percentage.

 

BETHANY VS. WASHINGTON & JEFFERSON

  • Bethany came out strong in the first set, hitting at a day-high .393, while holding Washington and Jefferson to a .000, taking the set, 25-11.

  • There were three lead changes in the second set, before WJC took the set as it snagged five of the last seven points. The Bison went on the surrender the third and fourth set, 25-14 and 25-20, respectively.

  • Bethany finished the day with 43 kills in its second game as Sparks continued to shine with 13 kills.

  • Senior Reilly Parker (North Huntingdon, Pa./Norwin) was a rock on the defensive end as she tallied 24 of the team's 58 digs.

  • The Bison continues conference play when they welcome Thiel College to the Hummel Field House for Bethany's home opener, Wednesday, September 12. Bethany's home opener is slated for 7 p.m.
