Bethany Splits Second Day of Ginny Hunt Kilt Classic

WOOSTER, Ohio (BethanyBison.com) - The Bethany College Volleyball team split the final day of the Ginny Hunt Kilt Classic, Saturday, Sept. 15, on the campus of Wooster College. The Bison began the day by defeating Adrian College, 3-1-, before falling to Denison College, 3-1.

THE MATCHUPS

  • Match 1 Final: Bethany 3, Adrian 1 (25-19, 25-14, 18-25, 25-11)

  • Match 2 Final: Bethany 1, Denison 3 (23-25, 25-20, 16-25, 22-25)

BISON VS THE BULLDOGS

  • The Green and White started the day strong as it snagged the first two sets, 25-19 and 25-14. Despite falling to the Bulldogs, 25-18, in the third, Bethany made a statement when they grabbed it first game win of the classic with a 25-11 win over Adrian.

  • In the second and fourth set, the Bison hit at a blistering .417 and .421 clip, respectively. Five Bison eclipse the .400 hitting percentage through the four set.

  • Junior Katie Sparks (Macedonia, Ohio/Trinity) led the offensive efforts as he racked up 19 kills for a .318 clip.

BETHANY VS DENISON

  • After dropping the first set by a close score of 25-23, the Bison charged back to win the second set, 25-20. Bethany couldn't fight off Denison as they succumbed in the third and fourth, 25-16 and 25-22, respectively.

  • Sophomore Natalie Spitale (East Canton, Ohio/East Canton) paced the offensive efforts with 11 kills, while Sparks and junior Lindsey Llewellyn (Vermilion, Ohio/Norwalk St. Paul) followed close behind with nine and eight, respectively. Llewellyn hit at a team-high .421 clip.

  • Sparks tallied up four blocks against the Big Red, including a pair of solo blocks.
