Bison Sweep the Barons in Non-Conference Bout

STEUBENVILLE, Ohio (BethanyBison.com) - The Bethany College volleyball team pushed its winning streak to four as the Bison swept Franciscan University inside the Finnegan Fieldhouse, Monday night, Sept. 24. The win marks the eighth time this season that the Green and White have swept an opponent this season.

THE MATCHUP

  • Final: Bethany 3, Franciscan 0 | 25-12, 25-22, 25-18 (Box Score)

  • Records: 10-5, 1-16

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Despite the Barons winning three of the first five opening points, the Bison stormed back to win the first set with a dominating score of 25-12. The Green and White hit at a blistering .462 clip, while holding Franciscan to a -.042 percentage.

  • Competition was a bit more even in the second set as the Bison were able to escape with just a three point win over the Barons, 25-22. Despite jumping out to a 15-9 lead, Bethany would see it's lead fade away as Franciscan went on a 14-8 run to knot the score at 23 each. Back-to-back Bethany kills pushed the squad forward to its second set win.

  • The Green and White used a game-high 15 kills to complete the sweep in the third set. After the Bison ran out to an early 8-3 lead, Bethany was able to keep its lead to as most five.

MATCH NOTES

  • Reigning Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) Player of the Week, junior Katie Sparks (Macedonia, Ohio/Trinity) tallied a game-high 10 kills (.250 percentage) to go along with three digs and a block assist.

  • On the defensive end, senior Reilly Parker (North Huntingdon, Pa./Norwin) racked up a team-high 14 digs, while freshman Brooke Corely (Scottdale, Pa./Southmoreland) went up for her ninth block assist this season.

The Bison continue their month-long road trip this Thursday, Sept. 27, when they face off against PAC-foe St. Vincent. First serve is set for 7 p.m.
