Bison Sweep the Jackets in Annual Dig Pink Game

BETHANY, W.Va. (BethanyBison.com) - For the ninth time this season, the Bethany College volleyball team swept it's opponent as the Bison took Presidents' Athletic Conference foe, Waynesburg, in three Tuesday night, Oct. 9 in their annual Dig Pink game.

THE MATCHUP

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Despite trading points early on, a pair of kills from Ashley Versyer (Cygnet, Ohio/Elmwood) and Lindsey Llewellyn (Vermilion, Ohio/Norwalk St. Paul), and a pair of Waynesburg attacking errors, Bethany got an 8-4 lead over the Jackets. The Green and White refused to relinquish its lead the rest of the set as it won the opening round, 25-20.

  • The Green and White were a force to be reckoned with in the second set as it hit a blistering .419 clip, while holding the Jackets to just a .100. While both teams kept close to each other early on, a 14-6 run pushed Bethany further ahead before a senior Reilly Parker (North Huntingdon, Pa./Norwin) service ace sealed the Green and White's second win of the night.

  • In the third set, the lead was exchanged a total of four times as the Jackets fought to keep in it. Waynesburg snagged the opening three points, but a pair of Parker service aces sparked a 5-0 Bethany run. The Jackets knotted the score up at 11 before using 6-2 run to create its largest lead of the day. Bethany continued to chip away at the deficit before tying the game up, 18-18. The Green and White capitalized on a Waynesburg attacking error to take the game, 25-21.

MATCH NOTES

  • Notching her fifth consecutive double-double, and her 10th total this season, junior Katie Sparks (Macedonia, Ohio/Trinity) tallied 10 kills and digs on the night, to go long with a service ace and a block assist.

  • Parker was strong on the serving line as the senior produced a season-high four service aces. The North Huntingdon, Pa. native racked up a team-high 14 digs and a kill.

The Bison continue its home-stretch as they welcome Geneva to Hummel Field House for a Saturday afternoon tilt. The PAC showdown is slated for 1 p.m.
