Volleyball: Bethany Battles with John Carroll in Season Opener

Cleveland, Ohio – The Bethany Volleyball team opened the 2021 season in Cleveland, Ohio for the CWRU Tournament Friday evening. Bethany faced John Carroll in a five set battle, with the Blue Streaks coming out on top.
THE HIGHLIGHTS
- Bethany jumped out to a 2-0 lead heading into the third set
- In the third set, the Bison jumped out to a 14-8 lead before the Blue Streaks climbed back to knot the set at 15-15, the Bison kept battling deadlocking the set at 22-22 before John Carroll took set three
- In the fourth set, Bethany and John Carroll battled back and forth, with the Blue Streaks pulling away 20-14 and eventually taking set four
- John Carroll forced a fifth set after falling 2-0
BY THE NUMBERS
- 16 – The Bison had 16 blocks in the match with sophomore Emma Marthins leading the block party with five
- 13 – Riley Felton led the Bison with 13 kills
- 12 – The Bison had 12 service aces
- 5 – Bethany and John Carroll have faced each other five times with the Bison winning three of the matches
WHAT'S NEXT?
Bethany will face host Case Western Reserve on Saturday, September 3 at 10 am for the first match of the day. After the Bison face the Spartans, they face off against Earlham at 12 pm.
