  • Courtney Hilyer enters her 16th season as the head coach in the 2022 season

 

  • Hilyer is the all-time winningest coach in program history
  • The Bison returned to the PAC Championship match in 2021. They finished the season 17-11 (13-5) after falling to Westminster in the Championship. 
  • The Green and White placed five on All-PAC teams in 2019 including Sydney Snyder claiming PAC Rookie of the Year. Snyder is the sixth Bethany player to earn newcomer of the year honors, and the first since Reilly Parker in 2015
  • Defeated Westminster, 3-0 to win Bethany’s second PAC Tournament Championship in 2018
  • Bethany was the first No. 3 seed to win the PAC title since 2013 defeating top seeded Westminster in three sets
  • Five athletes from the 2018 squad would earn All-PAC honors, led by senior Reilly Parker and junior Katie Sparks landing All-PAC First Team
  • Led the Bison to their first ever PAC Tournament Championship and NCAA Tournament berth in 2016
  • A three-time PAC Coach of the Year
  • Has guided the Bison to 11 straight PAC Tournament appearances, seven Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) appearances and four ECAC Championship crowns
  • Oversaw the development of both Dylana and Dakota McKenzie, the two most decorated volleyball players in Bethany College history. Dylana graduated as the school's all-time kills leader, while Dakota finished right behind her twin-sister at second all-time in kills following the 2016 season
  • Between the years of 2010-2013, the Bison rattled off four-consecutive ECAC Championships, as well as three-straight 30+ win seasons in 2011, 2012 and 2013
  • During the 2013 campaign, the Bison accomplished something that no other team in the PAC had before; a 17-1 regular season conference record
  • In 2009, Hilyer was named the PAC Coach of the Year after guiding the program to a 16-15 record and their first appearance in the PAC Tournament since 2004
  • Through her first 10 seasons, Hilyer has coached four CoSIDA Academic All-American selections, 11 academic all-district honorees and 45 All-PAC selections. She has also coached three "PAC Freshman of the Year" selections (Jessica Zavatchen - 2009; Dylana McKenzie - 2013; Reilly Parker - 2015) and has also had more than 70 athletes earn Academic All-PAC honors

  • Two-year stint as the head coach at Penn State-Fayette in Uniontown, Pennsylvania
  • The Lions captured back-to-back PSUAC championships, the first in the school’s history
  • Hilyer was named the Coach of the Year following both seasons
  • In 2006, PSU-Fayette completed the regular season with a 24-7 overall record, including an 18-1 mark in conference play, before claiming victories over Mont Alto and two over Penn College to repeat as PSUAC champions
  • In addition to the conference title, the Lions earned the #1 ranking in the USCAA (United States Collegiate Athletic Association) polls in their initial season with the new conference
  • Hilyer was also named the 2007 College Women’s Coach of the Year by the Tri-County (Fayette, Greene, Washington) Athletic Directors Association

  • A four-year member of the volleyball team at Cedarville (Ohio) University
  • Hilyer helped her team to the NAIA American Mideast Conference tournament all four years and was a 2002 NSCAA All-Midwest Region team selection
  • She still currently ranks in the top-10 at the school in service aces, games played and digs

  • Graduated from Cedarville with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Physical Education (Sports Management concentration) (’03)
  • Graduated from California University of Pennsylvania with a Master of Science degree in Sport Management (’06)
  • Hilyer and her husband Ryan Hilyer, Bethany’s men’s college lacrosse coach, reside in Bethany, W.Va
