Bethany Clipped 73-64 in Overtime by Thiel

Bethany, W.Va- Bethany College men's basketball team was edged 73-64 in overtime by Thiel, Saturday afternoon, Dec. 8, inside the Hummel Fieldhouse. Junior Trey Shifflett (York, Pa/ William Penn) set a new career high with 29 points for the Bison. The green and white fall to 1-8 (0-3) while Thiel is now 3-7 (1-2).

GAME OVERVIEW

Bethany started the game with a Shifflett layup and led majority of the game. Bison led by as many as seventeen points throughout the game. The green and white shot a cold 28.6% in the second half while the Tomcats shot 37% from the field. The cold second half shooting from the Bison allowed the Tomcats to climb back and tie the game 56-56 with 1:35 left in the game. Thiel went ahead with a pair of foul shots from Terrance Holloway. Moments later, the Bison would tie the game from a Shifflett layup. The Bison would have an opportunity to win after a Thiel turnover but missed three pointers fell short.
In overtime, the momentum was shifted to the Tomcats. The Bison kept battling with a layup coming from Khalil Wilson (Pittsburgh, Pa/Woodland Hills), bringing the Tomcat lead down to seven. Foul trouble would put Thiel at the line allowing the Tomcats to build the lead back to nine. The Bison cut the lead back to six after a Shifflett three but time ran out for the Bison.

• Senior Malik Ellis (Richmond, Va/ Life Christian Academy) added eight points for the green and white
• The Bison were out rebounded 52-37. Freshmen Khalil Wilson led the Bison with a team high eight rebounds and added seven points
• Bethany had five blocks and eight steals, led by freshmen Dylan Furlong (Norwalk, Ohio/ St. Paul) who blocked three of the Tomcats shots and Shifflett had three steals

"It was a tough game from start to finish. Thiel did a good job attacking us throughout the game. I thought we executed at times, which gave us opportunities… Some we took advantage of and others, I think we left on the floor. We need to keep working towards putting together a complete game. I thought tonight was the closest we've come to that complete game. We'll keep working and get ready to finish out the semester after finals. #OneBethany".

The Bison are off until the Dec. 20. They will travel to Huntington, Pa where they will take on Stockton in the first game of the Juniata College Tournament at 3 pm.
